Dear Chairman Cassidy and Ranking Member Sanders,

We at Awake Illinois urge the swift confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to serve as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). Amidst failed federal policies over the last several years, citizens of America have faced devastating misinformation, propaganda, and harm related to their health and well being. Due to the draconian measures taken by the previous Biden administration, Americans were forced to either acquiesce or fight unnecessary medical apartheid such as mask and/or medical mandates. Many people were wrongly forced to accept an experimental “Covid-19” injection in order to maintain their paycheck and/or continue military service. Americans await federal investigation of the New York City mass casualty event in Spring 2020 (1) that saw eight World Trade Center disasters worth of excess death in six weeks. Perhaps most egregious, was the agency’s adoption of radical gender ideology via Rachel (formerly Richard) Levine, the Health Secretary under President Biden since 2021. It’s tragic to see the United States has fallen well behind our international peers on health system performance (2) . Given the current health challenges facing our nation, we assert Mr. Kennedy possesses the unique blend of experience, passion, and vision that is required to guide our public health policies towards a more transparent and effective direction.

Leadership in Public Health Advocacy: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to public health through his work as an environmental lawyer and his advocacy for healthier living conditions. His focus on reducing exposure to harmful chemicals and promoting cleaner environments directly correlates with the mission of HHS to protect and advance the health of all Americans. His leadership in founding organizations like the Children's Health Defense shows his dedication to health issues that affect our most vulnerable populations, especially children.

Vision for Health Policy: Kennedy's "Make America Healthy Again" initiative outlines a comprehensive approach to tackling chronic diseases by addressing root causes such as food additives, ultra-processed foods, and environmental toxins. His proposed policies could lead to significant public health advancements, focusing on prevention over merely treatment, which aligns with the long-term goals of reducing health care costs and improving the quality of life. His skepticism about certain established health practices, while controversial, encourages a reevaluation of how these practices serve public health, fostering an environment for informed policy-making.

Support from Medical Professionals: It’s worth noting that a significant number of medical professionals and scientists have publicly supported his nomination, seeing it as an opportunity to bring fresh perspectives to HHS, particularly in areas like chronic disease management and public trust in health institutions. Over 800 medical professionals have endorsed him (3) , which speaks to his ability to unite diverse groups around a common goal of health improvement.

Community Engagement: Kennedy's approach to health involves engaging with communities, ensuring that policy decisions are informed by the lived experiences of those they impact. His history of rallying support for health initiatives suggests he can effectively mobilize resources and public sentiment towards addressing health crises.

Addressing Controversies: While Mr. Kennedy has been involved in controversial discussions, particularly regarding vaccines, his nomination presents an opportunity to bring these issues into the light for a thorough, transparent review. His promise to not remove vaccines but to ensure more discourse and safety studies could potentially strengthen public trust in health policies if managed responsibly.

In conclusion, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. brings to the table a unique mix of advocacy, legal expertise, and public engagement that could significantly benefit the Department of Health and Human Services. His appointment could herald a new era of health policy in the United States, focusing on preventive care, medical freedom, and the ethical pursuit of knowledge on chronic diseases.

On behalf of our 100,000+ members and advocates, I urge you to proceed with a swift confirmation of Mr. Kennedy, recognizing the potential for transformative change in our approach to public health.

Sincerely,

Shannon Adcock

Founder and President, Awake Illinois
